Adult Psychiatry in Utah

Personalized psychiatric care that puts you first.

Taking the first step toward better mental health isn't always easy, especially when you're unsure what's causing the way you've been feeling. I'm Allison Bonham, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and founder of Neurvana Psychiatry & Wellness. I provide comprehensive adult psychiatric evaluations, personalized medication management, and whole-person mental health care through secure telehealth for adults throughout Utah.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, changes in mood, or simply haven't felt like yourself lately, my goal is to help you better understand what you're experiencing and find a treatment approach that works for you.

I believe psychiatric care should feel like a conversation, not an appointment where you're given a diagnosis and sent on your way. I take time to listen, understand your history, and learn how your mental health is affecting your everyday life. You deserve to feel heard, informed, and comfortable asking questions about your care.

Mental health is rarely influenced by just one thing. Your experiences, physical health, sleep, relationships, stress, and daily habits can all contribute to how you feel. At Neurvana, we look at the whole picture and work together to develop a personalized plan that supports your mental health and overall well-being.

Conditions We Evaluate and Treat

Mental health challenges can affect people differently, and symptoms often overlap. Understanding what's contributing to your concerns is an important first step toward finding appropriate care.

At Neurvana, we provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment for a variety of adult mental health concerns, including:

  • ADHD: Difficulty with attention, organization, impulsivity, and executive functioning.

  • Anxiety Disorders: Persistent worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, and excessive fear or nervousness.

  • Depression: Low mood, loss of interest, reduced motivation, and changes in energy or daily functioning.

  • Bipolar Disorder: Changes in mood, energy, activity, and sleep that may require specialized evaluation and ongoing care.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Unwanted intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors that interfere with everyday life.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Trauma-related distress, anxiety, sleep difficulties, and other symptoms following traumatic experiences.

  • Insomnia and Sleep Difficulties: Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or getting restful sleep, particularly when connected to mental health concerns.

Every patient is different. We'll discuss your symptoms, history, and treatment needs to determine whether Neurvana is the right fit for your care or whether additional specialized services may be beneficial.

Our Approach to Adult Psychiatric Care

I don't believe there is a single treatment that works for everyone. Your care should reflect your individual experiences, preferences, medical history, and personal goals.

At Neurvana, my approach combines evidence-based psychiatric treatment with attention to the physical and lifestyle factors that can influence mental health.

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations

We begin by discussing your symptoms, medical and mental health history, previous treatments, current concerns, and personal goals. A thorough evaluation helps us better understand your needs and determine the next steps in your care.

Personalized Medication Management

When medication is appropriate, we discuss your options together. My approach to psychiatric medication management includes careful consideration of potential benefits, side effects, treatment response, and ongoing follow-up.

Whole-Person Mental Health Care

Mental health and physical well-being are closely connected. My approach to holistic psychiatry considers factors such as sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, and overall health alongside established psychiatric treatments.

Collaborative, Ongoing Support

Your treatment plan isn't something we create once and never revisit. We'll continue evaluating your progress, discussing concerns, and making adjustments when necessary. I want you to feel actively involved in your care every step of the way.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first psychiatric appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and better understand what you've been experiencing.

We'll talk about your symptoms, how long they've been affecting you, your medical and mental health history, any medications you've tried, and what you hope to accomplish through treatment.

You don't need to arrive with all the answers or even know exactly how to describe what you're feeling. That's part of what we're here to explore together.

After discussing your concerns, we'll review possible next steps. Depending on your individual needs, your treatment plan may include medication, lifestyle recommendations, additional evaluation, coordination with another healthcare professional, or referrals for other services.

My goal is for you to leave your appointment with a better understanding of your options and a clear direction for moving forward.

Who This Is For

Adult psychiatric care at Neurvana may be a good fit if you've been experiencing mental health symptoms that affect your daily life, relationships, work, sleep, or overall sense of well-being.

You may benefit from a psychiatric evaluation if:

  • You've been struggling with anxiety, depression, mood changes, or difficulty concentrating.

  • You're unsure whether your symptoms may be related to a mental health condition.

  • You've received treatment before but haven't found the improvement you hoped for.

  • You're considering psychiatric medication and want to understand your options.

  • You're already taking medication and would like your treatment reviewed.

  • You're looking for a provider who considers your overall health and takes time to understand your concerns.

You don't need to have a previous psychiatric diagnosis to schedule an initial evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Adult Psychiatry

What is adult psychiatry?

Adult psychiatry focuses on evaluating, diagnosing, and treating mental health conditions in adults. Psychiatric care may include comprehensive assessments, medication management, treatment planning, and coordination with other healthcare professionals.

Do I need a diagnosis before scheduling an appointment?

No. Many patients schedule their first psychiatric evaluation because they're experiencing symptoms they don't fully understand. Your initial appointment helps us explore those concerns and determine appropriate next steps.

Is psychiatric care the same as therapy?

Not exactly. Psychiatric care often focuses on evaluating mental health symptoms, diagnosis, medication management, and overall treatment planning. Psychotherapy focuses on psychological and behavioral approaches. These services can complement each other, and we can coordinate with your therapist when appropriate.

Will I need to take medication?

Not necessarily. Medication recommendations depend on your symptoms, medical history, preferences, and clinical needs. We'll discuss appropriate options together, and medication will only be recommended when clinically indicated.

Can I receive adult psychiatric care online in Utah?

Yes. Neurvana provides secure telehealth psychiatric evaluations and medication management for eligible adults throughout Utah. You'll need to be physically located in Utah at the time of your appointment, and telehealth must be appropriate for your clinical needs.

Does Neurvana accept insurance?

Neurvana works with several insurance plans and also offers self-pay options. Your coverage and out-of-pocket costs depend on your individual insurance benefits. Please contact us to confirm participation and eligibility before your appointment.
