OCD Treatment in Utah
Understanding intrusive thoughts. Finding relief and regaining control.
Living with unwanted thoughts, repetitive behaviors, or the constant feeling that something isn't quite right can be exhausting. I'm Allison Bonham, APRN, PMHNP-BC, and at Neurvana Psychiatry & Wellness, I provide personalized psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adults experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related mental health concerns. Through secure telehealth, I help eligible patients throughout Utah better understand their symptoms and explore treatment options that support their mental health and everyday well-being.
OCD is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions. It's often portrayed as simply being overly organized, particular about cleanliness, or wanting everything to be perfect. But for people living with OCD, the experience can be much more distressing. Unwanted thoughts may appear repeatedly, creating anxiety, doubt, or fear. Compulsive behaviors or mental rituals may provide temporary relief, only for the thoughts and uncertainty to return.
What I find especially important about treating OCD is creating a space where patients feel comfortable talking about experiences they may have kept to themselves for years. Some intrusive thoughts can feel embarrassing, frightening, or completely out of character. Having those thoughts doesn't mean you want to act on them, and you deserve to discuss what you're experiencing without feeling judged.
OCD can also occur alongside other mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Understanding how these conditions may be connected is an important part of developing an effective treatment plan.
At Neurvana, I believe care should go beyond identifying symptoms. We'll explore your mental health history, thought patterns, daily challenges, sleep, stress, and overall well-being to better understand what you're experiencing. Evidence-based treatments, including appropriate medication and specialized psychotherapy, can help many people manage OCD symptoms and improve their quality of life.
My goal is to help you feel heard, understand your options, and develop a personalized approach to care that supports meaningful, lasting progress.

What to Expect
Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to have an open, comfortable conversation about what you've been experiencing. We'll discuss your thoughts, worries, behaviors, emotional responses, and how your symptoms may be affecting your relationships, work, sleep, and everyday responsibilities.
I understand that talking about intrusive thoughts or compulsive behaviors can feel uncomfortable, especially if you've spent years trying to hide or manage them on your own. You don't need to worry about having the right words or explaining everything perfectly. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where we can begin understanding your experiences together.
OCD can sometimes resemble other mental health conditions, and not every intrusive thought or repetitive behavior indicates OCD. A thorough evaluation helps us distinguish between different possibilities and determine which treatment approaches may be most appropriate.
If medication is recommended, we'll discuss the available options, potential benefits, side effects, and what to expect during treatment. Medications commonly used for OCD may take several weeks to show meaningful improvement, and finding an effective dose can require careful monitoring and adjustment.
An important part of OCD treatment is also understanding the role of exposure and response prevention (ERP), a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy. ERP helps people gradually change how they respond to obsessive fears and compulsive urges. When appropriate, I can recommend seeking care from a therapist trained in this approach as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Follow-up visits allow us to review your progress, discuss concerns, and adjust your treatment when needed. We'll pay attention to how your symptoms affect your daily life and whether your treatment is helping you function more comfortably and confidently.
My goal is to make sure you feel informed, supported, and actively involved in your care.

Who This Is For
OCD care at Neurvana may be a good fit if you're experiencing unwanted, repetitive thoughts that cause distress, feel compelled to repeat certain behaviors or mental rituals, or find yourself spending significant time worrying, checking, seeking reassurance, or trying to prevent something bad from happening.
It may also be appropriate if you've previously received an OCD diagnosis and are looking for ongoing psychiatric medication management, have tried medication without achieving the improvement you hoped for, or want a provider who takes time to understand your symptoms and overall mental health.
OCD doesn't look the same for everyone. Some people experience visible compulsions such as checking, cleaning, or arranging objects. Others struggle primarily with internal rituals, repeated mental reviewing, or persistent intrusive thoughts that aren't obvious to the people around them.
Whether your symptoms are relatively new or have been affecting your life for years, a psychiatric evaluation can help clarify what you're experiencing and identify appropriate treatment options.
Neurvana provides telehealth psychiatry for eligible adults throughout Utah, allowing appropriate psychiatric evaluations and medication management from the comfort and privacy of your own space.
Some patients may benefit from specialized OCD therapy, additional evaluation, or a higher level of care. We'll discuss those options when appropriate to help you receive the support that best meets your needs.
